US Rejects WHO’s Non-Communicable Diseases Declaration

U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced today that the United States is rejecting a proposed United Nations political declaration on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), arguing that the text “exceeds the UN’s proper role while ignoring the most pressing health issues.”

He accused the draft of overreach on issues like taxation and global health management, and pledged the U.S. would “walk away from the declaration” while reaffirming its commitment to fighting chronic disease.

The move prevented the declaration from being adopted by consensus and now forces it to be voted on in the UN General Assembly.
