Federal Reserve Governor Adriana D. Kugler will formally resign on August 8, 2025, nearly six months before her term’s scheduled end in January 2026.
Her early departure grants President Trump immediate authority to nominate a successor – potentially one he favours for future Fed chairmanship.
Kugler, appointed by President Biden in September 2023 as the Fed’s first Hispanic governor, is returning to Georgetown University later this year.
The vacancy shifts the balance on the board amidst ongoing tensions with Fed Chair Jerome Powell over interest‑rate policy as Trump presses for rate cuts.
