German foreign ministry urges Hungary to arrest Putin

Germany has called on Hungary to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin if he visits the country.

Although Hungary has declared plans to withdraw from ICC jurisdiction, that exit does not take effect until April 2026.

Until then, Budapest remains legally bound to arrest Putin under ICC rules.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó earlier stated that if a summit with Putin is held in Budapest, Hungary will “ensure the conditions for Putin’s entry, stay, and departure.”
