Mediators Float 45-Day Ceasefire As Last-Ditch Bid To Stop Escalation

Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey have sent a joint proposal to both Washington and Tehran calling for a 45-day ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, giving time for permanent settlement talks, two Middle East officials told AP.

The proposal was delivered late Sunday night directly to Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff.

A White House official confirmed a 45-day ceasefire was “one of many things being discussed,” but said Trump has not signed off.

Iran has so far rejected a US proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire and continues to insist any deal must include reparations, security guarantees, and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Axios described the chances of a breakthrough before tonight’s deadline as “slim.”
