President Trump delivered his most extreme threat yet as his 8pm ET Tuesday deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz arrived, posting on Truth Social: “A whole civilisation will die tonight.”
He told reporters Iran’s infrastructure could be “demolished over a period of four hours” and that the “entire country” could be taken out overnight.
Iran’s IRGC dismissed the warnings as “rude, arrogant rhetoric” and said they were having no effect, warning that if the US crosses “red lines” and attacks civilian facilities, Iran will strike outside the Middle East and deprive the US and its allies of oil and gas “for many years.”
VP JD Vance, speaking in Hungary, said the war would conclude “very shortly” but added the outcome was “ultimately up to the Iranians.”
