Australia’s Prime Minister Confirms Recognition of Palestinian State at UN

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced today that his country will formally recognise the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September.

The move is conditioned on commitments from the Palestinian Authority, including excluding Hamas from governance, demilitarising, and holding democratic elections.

Albanese described the recognition as part of a global effort to advance a two-state solution.

He criticised Israel’s military approach as escalating the conflict and argued that a diplomatic and humanitarian strategy offers the best hope to end violence and famine in Gaza.
