Several countries and world leaders have called for restraint after clashes resumed between Pakistan and Afghanistan following Pakistan’s airstrike inside Afghan territory on Sunday.
China and Russia are among those urging both sides to step back. António Guterres has also appealed for calm.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that both sides must seek to deescalate as soon as possible.
The renewed violence has raised fears of broader instability along the already volatile border.
