China Warns U.S. Against Intervening in Nigeria Affairs

China has issued a strong warning to the United States after President Donald Trump threatened military intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

At a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Nigeria is a “comprehensive strategic partner” of China and criticised any foreign power using religion or human rights as a pretext for interference or threats of sanctions and force.

The statement came in response to U.S. remarks warning Nigeria that military action could follow unless alleged abuses cease.

China reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s government and emphasised respect for Nigeria’s sovereign right to lead its own development.
