Azerbaijan has dispatched humanitarian aid to Iran in a move that has surprised many observers amid rising regional tensions.
President Ilham Aliyev ordered the shipment of relief supplies intended to support Iranian civilians affected by the ongoing crisis.
The aid reportedly includes food products, drinking water and medical supplies transported by Azerbaijan’s emergency services.
The assistance comes despite recent tensions between the two neighbours following accusations that Iranian drones struck Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region.
Officials in Baku say the humanitarian delivery is aimed at helping ordinary Iranians during the conflict and does not change Azerbaijan’s security stance.
