French PM survives no-confidence votes after pension reform concession

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has survived two no-confidence votes in parliament after agreeing to suspend President Macron’s pension reform until after 2027.

The move secured crucial backing from the Socialist Party, allowing his minority government to remain in power.

The motions, filed by both the far-left and far-right, fell short of the 289 votes required to bring down the government.

Lecornu’s survival gives him temporary breathing room, but he now faces renewed challenges in pushing through the 2026 budget and maintaining stability in a deeply divided National Assembly.
