A gendarme was killed while on patrol in the south of Ivory Coast as the country gears up for Saturday’s presidential election.
The incident took place near Agboville on the Agboville–Azaguié route and occurred in a region seen as an opposition stronghold.
No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting, but it comes amid protests following the barring of two major opposition candidates and a nationwide ban on demonstrations.
Authorities have deployed tens of thousands of security forces and are warning of further unrest if the vote is contested.
