Iran’s military has escalated its response to the US naval blockade, warning today it will cut off shipping across the Persian Gulf, Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea if Washington continues.
General Ali Abdollahi, head of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the blockade is illegal and a ceasefire violation.
The threat to the Red Sea invokes Iran’s Houthi proxy network in Yemen, which previously paralysed the waterway.
US CENTCOM meanwhile declared the blockade “fully implemented,” saying it has completely halted Iran’s maritime trade.
Trump has hinted second-round talks could resume this week.
