Israel considers closing the French Consulate in Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly considering shutting down the French Consulate in Jerusalem.

The move appears to be in response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine during the upcoming UN General Assembly session.

Netanyahu’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel confirmed the closure is “on the prime minister’s table” and cited France’s policy shift as the main trigger.

France has yet to receive any formal notification but has warned that such an action would damage bilateral relations and prompt a strong response from Paris.
