French President Emmanuel Macron has warned against what he called a reckless escalation in the Middle East after Iran struck Gulf energy sites following an Israeli attack on the South Pars gas field.
Macron said several Gulf countries had now been hit in their production facilities for the first time, just as Iran had been targeted earlier.
He warned that attacks on energy infrastructure could give the war a far more lasting impact on the region and the global economy.
Macron also called for direct talks between the United States and Iran, urging diplomacy to prevent the conflict from spiralling further.
