Malian TikToker Publicly Executed in Northern Mali

In Tonka, northern Mali, 23-year-old TikTok creator Mariam Cissé has been executed in public after being accused by jihadist militants of filming them for the army.

Cissé, who amassed some 90,000 followers by documenting life in her region and openly supporting the Malian military, was reportedly kidnapped during a live stream at a local fair.

The militants dragged her into Independence Square and shot her in front of a crowd to send a chilling message.

Local officials said armed extremists targeted her simply because she used her camera, a device they see as a threat to their control.

The ruling military junta in Bamako continues to claim sovereignty even as groups like Jama’at Nasr al‑Islam wal‑Muslimin impose fuel blockades, starve villages and limit freedom of expression.

Mariam’s death stands as a warning to anyone who dares to document or challenge extremist rule in a region where truth has become contraband.
