At least 14 people have died and more than 50 others were injured as violent clashes erupted between police and demonstrators in Kathmandu today.
The unrest was sparked by the government’s decision to ban around 26 social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube and X.
The demonstrations, largely led by Generation Z, began peacefully but escalated after protesters breached barricades around the Parliament.
Police responded with tear gas, water cannons, rubber bullets and eventually live ammunition.
Hospitals across the capital reported dozens of wounded treated for gunshot injuries, and authorities imposed a sweeping curfew in central Kathmandu.
The protests have now spread into a wider movement opposing censorship and demanding accountability.
This marks one of the deadliest episodes of unrest in Nepal in recent years, as young Nepalis rally against government actions they see as an assault on freedom of expression.
