Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has scheduled a parliamentary vote of confidence for 11 June 2025, following the narrow presidential election victory of nationalist candidate Karol Nawrocki.
Nawrocki, backed by the Law and Justice (PiS) party and supported by U.S. President Donald Trump, secured 50.89% of the vote, defeating liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski.
Tusk’s centrist coalition, comprising ideologically diverse parties, faces internal dissent and challenges in fulfilling key promises, such as liberalising abortion laws.
The confidence vote aims to reassert the government’s authority amid growing political uncertainty and speculation about the coalition’s future viability ahead of the next election in 2027.
Nawrocki’s impending presidency, commencing on 6 August, is expected to challenge Tusk’s pro-European agenda through veto powers and influence over foreign policy, potentially straining relations with the European Union.
