South Korea concerned as citizens detained in U.S. factory raid

South Korea has confirmed that several of its nationals were detained during a large immigration raid at a Hyundai–LG Energy battery plant construction site in Georgia.

U.S. Homeland Security officers detained up to 450 workers in total, including around 30 South Koreans.

Seoul expressed regret and urged Washington to ensure fair treatment, warning that business and diplomatic ties should not be harmed by the enforcement action.

The raid has halted construction at the site and raised concerns over the impact on Korean investment in the U.S., with calls for the swift release of detained workers.
