German authorities have arrested a 22-year-old Syrian national in Berlin on suspicion of planning a jihadist-motivated attack, according to official statements from Berlin prosecutors.
The suspect was taken into custody in Berlin’s Neukölln district and appeared before a judge, who ordered his remand.
Police discovered equipment suitable for making explosive devices during searches of his residences, authorities say.
Prosecutors have charged him with preparing a serious criminal offence against the state and for distributing propaganda material linked to unconstitutional and terrorist organisations.
The man reportedly arrived in Germany in 2023 under temporary protection status and had lived at one of his registered addresses, a former hotel now functioning as a refugee shelter.
