Trump Sends Marines Amid Rising Tensions in Los Angeles Riots

President Trump has ordered the deployment of roughly 700 active‑duty Marines from Camp Pendleton to Los Angeles, following an initial wave of 2,000 National Guard troops already on federal orders to manage immigration‑related riots.

The Pentagon confirmed these Marines will protect federal personnel and property, not carry out law enforcement duties under the Posse Comitatus Act.

California officials, including Gov. Newsom and LA Mayor Bass, strongly oppose the move and have filed a lawsuit alleging federal overreach.

Local police say they are capable of handling riots, and mayoral leaders warn that sending troops risks escalating tensions.
