The United States military has launched an operation to detain the oil tanker Olina in the Caribbean Sea near Trinidad, officials say.
The vessel, which according to public shipping database Equasis was falsely flying the flag of Timor-Leste, had previously sailed from Venezuela and returned to the region when it was intercepted, a US official told Reuters.
The action is part of a broader US campaign against so-called “dark fleet” tankers linked to Venezuelan oil exports and sanctions evasion.
Authorities have not reported any confrontation or casualties during the operation.
