EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has condemned Iran’s violent crackdown on protesters, calling the rising number of casualties “horrifying.”
She said the European Union “unequivocally condemns the excessive use of force and continued restriction of freedom.”
Von der Leyen confirmed that the EU has already listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in its entirety under the human rights sanctions regime.
Working closely with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, she said further sanctions against those responsible for repression will be proposed swiftly.
“We stand with the people of Iran who are bravely marching for their liberty,” she added.
