Luxembourg has announced its support for adding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the European Union’s official list of terrorist organisations, according to EU legislative records and recent calls from EU institutions.
The move comes amid growing pressure from lawmakers and member states to formally recognise the IRGC as a terrorist entity in light of its role in regional conflicts, human rights abuses and support for proxy groups.
The EU has already sanctioned IRGC officials and affiliates for rights violations and transnational repression, and Luxembourg’s backing signals rising momentum for a full designation.
