Britain has broken publicly with Washington over the Hormuz blockade. Prime Minister Starmer told BBC Radio 5 Live this morning: “We’re not supporting the blockade and we’re not getting dragged into the war.”
France, Spain and Turkey have also rejected Trump’s move.
Trump responded by comparing Starmer to Neville Chamberlain and accusing Britain of cowardice.
The UK government says its minesweepers remain in the region focused on reopening the strait, not closing it.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper will host an international coalition meeting later this week on restoring freedom of navigation.
