Hungary Announces Withdrawal from International Criminal Court Amid Netanyahu’s Visit

Hungary has declared its intention to withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), coinciding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrival in Budapest.

Netanyahu faces an ICC arrest warrant issued in November 2024 for alleged war crimes during the Gaza conflict.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government has criticized the warrant as “outrageously impudent” and “cynical,” opting to host Netanyahu rather than enforce the arrest.

This decision underscores Hungary’s defiance of international judicial norms and may strain its relations within the European Union and other ICC member states.
