UK and Germany Finalise Major Security and Migration Pact

The UK and Germany are set to sign a landmark bilateral treaty on July 17, covering defence, migration, trade and innovation.

The agreement includes a mutual assistance clause, meaning any threat to one country will be treated as a threat to both.

This gives Germany security ties with both of Europe’s nuclear powers.

The treaty builds on last year’s Trinity House Agreement and is backed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

It also includes cooperation on illegal migration and economic growth.

The deal follows 18 rounds of negotiations and marks a major shift in post-Brexit diplomacy.
