Linden Kemkaran, leader of Kent County Council under Reform UK, has called on Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to reconsider planned cuts to care-worker visas.
In a letter co-authored with Diane Morton, Kemkaran warned that ending this route would threaten 20–25% of the county’s social-care workforce and leave local homes staffing-deficient.
The council argues that increased migration in this sector is essential to maintain vital services.
Their plea highlights tension within Reform UK, which generally favours stricter immigration, and shines a light on real-world effects of national visa policy at the local level.
