The Pentagon has ordered the deployment of 10 F-35 fighter jets to a base in Puerto Rico as part of a new campaign against drug cartels, according to Reuters.
Sources said the aircraft will be tasked with missions targeting specific narco-terrorist groups in the region.
The jets are expected to arrive by the end of next week.
U.S. defence officials have described the move as a significant boost to surveillance and strike capabilities in the Caribbean, where cartels have expanded smuggling routes.
The operation reflects Washington’s growing use of military assets in counternarcotics efforts.
