18 dead, 360 wounded in Pakistan–Afghanistan border clashes

The United Nations reports that at least 18 people have been killed and over 360 wounded since October 10 in clashes between Pakistani and Afghan forces along their shared border.

The violence erupted after Pakistani airstrikes on Afghan territory and retaliatory Taliban attacks near strategic crossings.

Both sides have now agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, though the humanitarian cost continues to rise.

The UN mission in Afghanistan, UNAMA, urged all parties to end hostilities permanently to prevent further harm to civilians.

Hospitals in Kabul and Khost are overwhelmed, with many casualties caused by shrapnel injuries and collapsing structures from aerial bombardments.
