Tensions rise between Seoul and Pyongyang

South Korea’s defence ministry has officially proposed talks with the military of North Korea aimed at clarifying the precise boundary along the Korean Demilitarised Zone (DMZ).

The DMZ has long functioned as a high‐risk fault line, with guard towers facing each other, shadows triggering warning shots and even stray balloons setting off alerts.

Seoul argues that a simple map line could drastically reduce the chance that a routine patrol turns into a flashpoint.

While North Korea has yet to respond, the move signals Seoul’s willingness to engage in dialogue before tensions escalate further along one of the world’s most militarised borders.
