Ex US Treasury Chief in trouble over Epstein emails

Former US Treasury chief Larry Summers is stepping away from public roles after newly released emails showed years of continued contact with Jeffrey Epstein, according to US media reports.

Summers said he was “deeply ashamed” of his correspondence with Epstein, who had been convicted in 2008, and acknowledged that the disclosures had caused understandable concern.

He will continue teaching economics at Harvard but will withdraw from outside commitments while institutions reassess their links to him.

The emails, released by the US House Oversight Committee, span 2013 to 2019 and have triggered renewed scrutiny of Summers’ judgment and associations.
