Putin and Erdogan Step Up Talks on Ukraine After Lengthy Call

The Kremlin says Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan held an extended phone conversation in which both leaders agreed to intensify Russian-Turkish contacts on the Ukraine issue at multiple levels.

According to Moscow, Putin told Erdogan that the U.S. peace plan, in its current form, matches the themes discussed during the recent high-level Russia-U.S. meeting in Anchorage.

He said the proposal could potentially serve as a foundation for a final peace agreement.

Erdogan reiterated his willingness to help end the war and offered Istanbul as a location for future negotiations.

He also briefed Putin on his recent trip to the G20 summit and meetings with several world leaders.
