Russian military scientist’s car exploded in Moscow

A vehicle belonging to a Russian scientist involved in developing military laser systems exploded in Moscow.

The Land Cruiser Prado was owned by a 41-year-old Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and quantum electronics specialist from the Polus Research Institute, a subsidiary of the state-owned defence conglomerate Rostec.

The blast occurred while the car was parked, and no one was inside.

The scientist was reportedly abroad on a business trip to Southeast Asia when the explosion happened.

The Polus Research Institute designs military laser systems such as the LCD-4-1 target designator and rangefinder used by Russian artillery and aviation.

The institute is under U.S. and EU sanctions for its role in Russia’s war in Ukraine.
