Belgian police detained former EU foreign-policy chief Federica Mogherini and ex-EEAS Secretary-General Stefano Sannino during a major anti-fraud raid on the bloc’s diplomatic service.
The arrests follow raids on the offices of European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels and the campus of College of Europe in Bruges.
Prosecutors from European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) are investigating a 2021-22 tender for the EU Diplomatic Academy training programme amid suspicions of procurement fraud, corruption, and conflict of interest, including possible advance sharing of confidential tender details.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
