Anti-corruption protests in Albania turned violent as demonstrators hurled Molotov cocktails and fireworks at Prime Minister Edi Rama’s office, nearby government buildings and police vehicles in Tirana.
Riot police responded with tear gas and water cannon as clashes spread through the capital.
The unrest was sparked by corruption allegations against Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, who has denied wrongdoing.
Thousands of opposition supporters are demanding the government resign, saying the scandal has become a symbol of wider corruption at the top of the state.
The protests mark another sharp escalation in Albania’s deepening political crisis.
