The Welsh Parliament has banned GB News from its internal television network following the channel was termed as “deliberately offensive” by a spokesperson for Presiding Officer Elin Jones.
Senedd members and staff have been directed to view GB News online, as Tory Senedd group leader, Andrew RT Davies, dubbed the action “censorship” while GB News presenter Nigel Farage labelled it “totalitarian”.
Farage criticised the Welsh Labour administration, hinting at a grim future under Keir Starmer’s leadership across the UK.
The decision comes amidst several ongoing Ofcom investigations into GB News. The issue is slated for discussion in a forthcoming meeting by the commission, the cross-party body managing the Welsh Parliament’s daily operations.
Plaid Cymru’s spokesperson for broadcasting, Heledd Fychan, supported the decision, condemning platforms that objectify women. With more than ten active investigations, broadcasting watchdog Ofcom’s scrutiny of GB News continues to intensify.
