Robin Simcox, head of the Commission for Countering Extremism, revealed the existence of a “sophisticated” Iranian and Hamas support network in the UK, in his first major speech.
These networks are believed to incite pro-Palestine protests in the country.
Simcox expressed concerns over Iran’s potential to promote extremist ideologies through various channels in Britain.
He also pointed out the rise in Tehran-backed murder and kidnap plots as noted by MI5.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman identifies the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a significant threat, yet faces opposition in proscribing it due to diplomatic concerns.
Simcox, however, has stressed the need to address Hamas and Iran’s threats extending beyond the Middle East and challenge the leniency towards supporting Hamas.
