A man wielding a samurai sword-style blade has been arrested after attacking members of the public and police officers outside Hainault Tube station in North-East London. The Metropolitan Police were called to the scene early this morning following reports of a vehicle crashing into a house in Thurlow Gardens and subsequent stabbings.
A “critical incident” was declared by Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, as emergency services responded. According to police, the assailant, aged 36, continued his rampage, injuring several people, including two police officers, before being detained. The condition of the victims is still being assessed.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan reassured the community, stating, “This must have been a terrifying incident for those involved.” He confirmed that there is no further threat to the public, and the incident is not believed to be terror-related. Transport for London has temporarily closed Hainault station due to the ongoing police investigation.
