The UK has successfully relocated its first illegal migrant to Rwanda, marking a significant milestone in the controversial migration policy.
According to latest reports, the unnamed individual, whose asylum application was denied in 2023, voluntarily moved to Rwanda on a commercial flight, receiving £3,000 for resettlement from the British government.
This event follows the recent enactment of the Rwanda Bill, which received Royal Assent last week, officially commencing the initiative to deport migrants arriving illegally to Rwanda.
Home Secretary James Cleverly affirmed the government’s commitment to the scheme, emphasising its value in managing UK borders and preventing dangerous crossings.
The government plans to continue these flights as part of its broader strategy to deter illegal migration, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressing readiness to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights if necessary to uphold this policy.
