The government is urgently investigating why thousands of postal ballots have not been received ahead of Thursday’s election.
Conservative minister Maria Caulfield acknowledged issues in several constituencies, while postal affairs minister Kevin Hollinrake urged Royal Mail to ensure timely delivery.
Concerns have been raised in over 90 constituencies, including those of Cabinet ministers.
Caulfield confirmed Hollinrake’s direct involvement with Royal Mail and additional resources being deployed.
With a significant increase in postal voting since the last general election, the Local Government Association highlighted the added pressure on the system, calling for a review to support Royal Mail and printers.
